Work placement testimonials

"Josh Fronda (BA Product Design & Development for Cordwainers Footwear) has proven himself over time to be not only a very gifted and inspiring young man, but also someone who shows an enormous amount of integrity and commitment to learning. His contributions have enabled my footwear
designer to be secure in her presentations and thorough in her technical packages. Nearing the end of his industrial placement period I am able to see a tremendous amount of growth and newly discovered skill. [...] I commend the London College of Fashion for providing such a well informed background and solid foundation."
Will Chavarria, Design Director of Men’s Shoes and Accessories, American Eagle Outfitters

“My placement at Clarks as a Colour and Trend Forecasting Assistant allowed me to develop my knowledge and understanding of a brand, work with a broad range of designers and provide colour and trend forecasting for both the UK and international business. I had contact with factories, visits to show and trade fairs, contact with Directors and access to many great resources.”
Anna Hayward, BA (Hons) Product Design & Development for Cordwainers Footwear

“My placement with American Eagle Outfitters gave me an inside view to how the company worked and progressed in terms of trends. I was an Intern Designer on lingerie and dormwear. I gained the opportunity to develop Illustrator and Photoshop skills. Day to day responsibilities included design, lab dip work, fit meetings, presentation of up to date line sheets in meetings and communication with suppliers.”
Rebecca Crossley, BA (Hons) Product Design & Development for Clothing

“During my placement year I spent most of my time working within C&A’s boyswear department. My primary roles involved assisting the designers, designing prints and silhouettes and creating C&A’s own in-house trend book. It was a great experience as it allowed me to meet new people and develop my commercial understanding and drawing skills.”
Len Blake, BA (Hons) Product Design & Development for Clothing

“I spent my placement with the design team at Topman. I had such a good time there – I met some amazing stylists and designers through them. I worked on the Spring Summer collections and the press show, and I also worked on diffusion lines such as Kim Jones and Martin Andersson. From my time at Topman I have now been offered a job with Illustrated People as their designer which is an amazing opportunity to be given whilst still studying. I highly recommend work placements with High Street retailers in particular as it can give you a much more realistic perspective of the industry.”
Mark Gumm, BA (Hons) Fashion Design & Technology / Menswear

“My placements at Aquascutum and Paul Seville allowed me to see both large and small scale fashion business environments first hand. Working at the luxury level of the market reinforced the importance of quality and factors which affected this. Overall they were excellent learning experiences which built upon what had been learnt on the course as well as increasing confidence.”
Rakesh Tailor, BA (Hons) Product Design & Development for Cordwainers Footwear
